Do you think idealism no longer exists? Just take a look at the 2007 version of Zionism: 30 new immigrants from South America realized a dream and settled on Kibbutz Holit in the Negev.

During the past year, as they were getting ready to move to Israel, they heard that the kibbutz they were headed to was under continuous Qassam attacks. But it didn't stop them from rolling up their sleeves and help a kibbutz that is on the verge of collapse due to the fact that most of its residents left because of its deteriorating economic and security situation.

The olim – aged 19 through 28 from Argentina, Brazil Mexico and Venezuela – chose to remain optimistic. They are certain that, with their help, the kibbutz will regain its past glory.

A few days ago they arrived at the kibbutz and went straight to work. First thing they did was paint a wall in colorful, bright colors. "We are aware of the difficult security situation in the area, but the Qassams won't deter us from accomplishing our goals," said Dario, one of the group's instructors.

Kibbutz Holit is in desperate need of help. Only 31 members currently work in agriculture, 89 others rent apartments in the kibbutz and work elsewhere. The group of olim, doubled the kibbutz' workforce and are looked upon as the kibbutz' last hope of survival.
