Israel Youth Award - International Seminar

Dear Participant

As the date of the International Conference of the Israel Youth Award approaches, we would like to draw your attention to some important details.

Every participant will be met at the airport by a member of the organising committee, holding a sign, written in English, welcoming you to the Conference.

On arrival at the Guest House, a representative of the Israel Youth Award (Gold Award holder) will help you to settle in and give you information regarding the programme (attached).

Distribution of material

13-14 Dec. at reception desk at the Guest House "Bayit Vegan".
Upon registration each participant will receive an identification tag and a conference file.
Participants are requested to wear the tag at all times.
Those who have not yet paid the registration fee of $100 will be able to do so.

1. Opening ceremony

This will take place at the residence of the President of Israel on 14 December at 11 a.m.
There will be a reception and cocktail party at 6 p.m. in the Hilton Hotel, Jerusalem

2. Language

The Seminar will be conducted in English. If you do not speak English please inform us.

3. Programme for the Sabbath

During the eve and day of Sabbath there will be a special programme.

4. Weather

In both venues - Jerusalem and Sde Boker which is in the center of the Negev, the weather is usually cold in December. Temperatures during the day can range from 5 - 15 degrees Cent. and at night from 0 - 10 degrees Cent. There can be deviations ! There is also a possibility of rain - more in Jerusalem than Sde Boker, so please dress accordingly.

5. Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport

  1. After examination of passports and before you collect your luggage - look for the representative of the Award who will be holding a sign in English.
  2. After collection of luggage the representative will accompany you to the Guest House in Jerusalem. You will be met there by a participant of the Israel Youth Award who will accompany you during the seminar.

6. Dispersion at the end of Conference

The official ending of the conference is Monday 21 December. Transport will be provided from Sde Boker to the airport (Two and half hours journey)
If your return date is different from 21st please let us know immediately so that arrangements can be made. Any stay later than the official completion date is the responsibility of the participant.

7. Material on the Award in your country

You are invited to bring any materials pertaining to the Award in your own country - to be exhibited to participants at the seminar (i.e. handbooks, badges, posters).
All participants are requested to bring 3 flags of their country (approx. 60 x 120 cms).
We would ask all participants to prepare in advance a short presentation - folklore - music, dance etc.

8. Personal clothing and equipment

  1. Warm clothes
  2. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, pocket flashlight, raincoat, backpack.
  3. Suitable dress for official receptions (in Israel formal dress is not essential).
  4. For the evening devoted to the various countries represented, it would be desirable to bring traditional dress.

At Midreshet Sde Boker participants can make use of electronic mail.

10. Insurance

All participants must have insurance to cover travel, health and luggage/equipment.

11. Money

The registration fee of $100 can be paid on arrival.
In the arrival hall at the airport you will be able to change money. It is advisable (if you need pocket money etc) to change only a little there. There is no problem in changing money in Jerusalem - but NOTE - you will not be able to change money in Midreshet Sde Boker.

12. We would point out that any medical or physical restrictions are the responsibility of the participant.

13. General

We advise you to read information about Israel.
N.B. The day of rest in Israel is Saturday. Starting on Friday evening until Saturday evening there is no public transport (except for taxis) Shops and businesses are closed.
